ViZ has been making illustrations for articles and for advertising using physical models. Here are some examples. This section includes character designs, caricatures, illustrations made using objects from the real world and presentation mock-ups.
A few summers ago, Wall’s Ice Cream in Italy needed a new character;- a cow with sunburn to introduce their new ice cream. Veteran Hans Kroeskamp directed photography and post production. Our brown cow is made from a black, long haired Geddaway cow. An anatomically correct cow would never be funny, we had to move the eyes to the front of the head, shorten the arms and make a belly. We intensively bleached the black hair to achieve this brown basic color. The sunburn is white fur sewn into the fur of the Geddaway.
ViZ worked for the cover of the last Yellow Pages
For the cover of the Gouden Gids, (concept by Van Walbeek etc.), Viz.nl developed the costume which Katja Schuurman. The costume was made from polyester, digitally printed. The project was completed with the collaboration of colleagues Saskia de Zee en Robert Pachowski.
If you’re interested there is an article about this project on our previous website – http://www.viz.nl/sfx/fx_char_yellowpages.html
This is a clay sculpture of Salman Rushdie and other well known people, specifically made to be photographed.
Images made from real objects
For Liptonice in Argentina, our commision was to make illustrations using only tea and the tea bag. Each image should be “chique” and reflect the Lipton style. One would be a polo player, one would be of a ball gown, and another a monumental british house. Using tea it was possible to draw recognisable and unusual images.
A large campaign was set up using these illustrations made of tea. It was possible to see every detail of the materials used.
